About a year ago, he fell into a terrible state of depression while I was battleing a chronic illness, He was extremely rude to me. we lost a lot of trust over him not telling me anything, seeking attention and advice from other people *women in singles chatrooms and such- people who had NO knowledge of what he was exoeriencing in a dating-type atmosphere (i think because he needed some sort of validation he was worth something to somebody other than just me)*, talking trash about me to said women for sympathy/attention, and basiy leaving me out of the loop and completely in the dark. We got through it, rebuilt our trust but now it seems like he is falling back into that cycle that starts with the drinks goin down and him shutting me out. He has already started to seek help from people going through the same thing so he not fall into that state again. Currently I am suffering from "caregiver's burden"- obviously there is only so much i can do. I know that. I would like to address his drinking (I know so people who died from alcoholism and I don't want to lose my guy) and try to substitute something for the habbit (sleep aids, pain meds for injuries- anything to cut down the alcohols temporary fix and help find a more more permanent one) but I don't want to bring it up while he is in a vulnerable state like now- then he is just defensive and dosent feel like I recognize how much he has done to improve and how far he has come (which i do and I am proud of him). I don't want to have serious issues in the future where he wont help himself or things get nasty or it comes down to him picking the bottle over me. I this dearly and would to make him a permanent part of my life. The bad behavior mentioned at the start of this post ONLY occured during a time of extreme depression and mental anguish and has never happened since- he is a beautiful, loving,intelligent, hard-working individual. PTSD gets in the way of so things in a relationship- communication, emotions, intimacy to name a few- that is get REALLY tough to stay positive. This time around I'm not sick and can focus on doing my best to help him get through this- so i'm ready for anything you have to offer. Please arm me with knowledge!
